Tom Macnally MSc.

Exercise and Sport have always played a fundamental role in both my physical and mental development, from county-level swimming to national-level dance competitions.
Building upon the foundations of an undergraduate Psychology degree (BSc.), I specialised with a postgraduate masters in Health Psychology from the university of Surrey, the leading UK university in this field. This masters served to further confirmed the positive holistic impact simple steps within exercise and diet can have on improving individual’s overall wellbeing and quality of life.
Having also qualified with an Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Personal training and fitness instruction, by incorporating my psychological training, I’m now able to help bring about this improvement from both the perspective of physical fitness alongside mental health and wellbeing.
I am truly passionate about helping others along this journey, regardless of their initial fitness level and mental health status. I set up First Step Fitness Ltd as a safe place for individuals to come to for one-to-one support and guidance in taking the exciting first positive steps in realising their best self. What’s more, by creating a fun and enjoyable environment in which to take these steps together, I really believe in empowering clients to achieve sustained behaviour change and positive results themselves.
Health psychology apples the theories, methods and techniques of psychology to issues of health and illness. These are integrated into the psychological processes related to the maintenance of physical health throughout the life, the promotion of psychological wellbeing and both the normal and pathological responses to chronic health conditions, stress and anxiety.
The programme is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS).
